Cheers to a new year and a new me!

I have to be completely honest- I NEVER make new year resolutions. In fact, I usually struggle with post-holiday blues around this time of year. The Christmas cheer is always so peaceful for me, and I enjoy NYE festivities, so once our anniversary is over (January 2nd), I feel as if I have nothing to look forward to (i.e. post-holiday blues). It is quite embarrassing, as I should feel a constant sense of joy with all the blessings in my life. However, I have always been a goal-setting go-getter. So this year, I am not let the holiday-hangover hold me back. 2018 is full of many blessings and unknown adventures, so with that, I am setting some positive goals for the new year and I cannot wait to share them with you.

2018 Goals

Healthy Life- Happy Wife!

Growing up, I was always involved with sports. Volleyball, softball, cheerleading, flag football, and even some motocross! I was constantly active, especially in high school and college when volleyball controlled my life. However, since moving back home from college and getting married, exercise has not been on the top of my list of things to do. It seems that unless it is an organized sport, I tend to not enjoy fitness. However, after 2 years of marriage, Josh and I are ready for a change and are embarking on a better, more healthy lifestyle.

I have done lots of research for the program that is right for me. After watching a video of one of my favorite bloggers, Mallory Ervin, I found that the Weight Watchers was the perfect match for me. {You can watch her video here} Believe it or not, this program isn’t just for middle-aged women looking for a trendy diet. It is MORE than jut a diet- it is a form of ACCOUNTABILITY, which is something I desperately need. I do not partake in any on-site meetings, I simply use the Weight Watchers app on my iPhone. Easy, accessible, and with plenty of capabilities. Using the WW SmartPoint system on the app, I am able to track every meal, snack, or drink to stay within my daily allotted points, with yummy new recipe options that fit within my ” WW budget”. And guess what?! There are unlimited 0 point options, such as fruits, veggies (non-starchy), eggs, beans, and even some fish!

As I mentioned earlier, I am not the most advanced when it comes to gym workouts. While I have always been athletic, I do not enjoy gym-based workouts. I try to do as much as I can at the gym, but I am not an expert- so sharing my tips and tricks would be laughable. What I try and do 6 days-a-week is walking on the treadmill. The trick is to walk on incline, which builds and tones your booty AND burns more calories. Mallory suggested walking at a 15% incline at about a 3.0-3.5 pace. I do this for 45-60 minutes, which is exactly one entire episode of Real Housewives or Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Getting my cardio in AND my reality tv!

Clutter Smothers- Simplicity Breathes

My mind is more at peace with even digits rather than with odd. So with this year being 2018- what better way to celebrate than with a clean slate. I wouldn’t consider myself a hoarder, but I live for sentimentalism, so it is not easy for me to get rid of things. Living in a temporary space with the majority of our things in storage has been difficult while we build. We continue to accumulate new things for our new home while not getting rid of the old, all while compacting it all into a small space. In the next several months, when moving into our new home, Josh and I both decided to declutter. While my design plan for our new house is clean and fresh, our current clutter situation does not reflect that. And after our past moving experience, we are not okay with more chaos and disorder. Therefore, our goal is to organize to the max! We have a huge storage section planned in the basement, which is perfect for organizational bins, labels, and type-A sorting. 😉 Because as clutter smothers, simplicity breathes, and we are finally ready to breathe!

Fashion has always been my passion. While I have always tried to keep my signature style with all my looks, a new goal for 2018 is to live outside the box with my style. I want to push the limits with accessorizing, color palettes, and pattern mixing. Now, that means pushing the limits within MY limits, so it may not seem that extra to some, but to me, it is a steer out of my conventional direction. Just as this city-inspired look. As my husband said when I walked out of the car, “oh please don’t let this be Kim-K inspired.” Why yes, honey, it is! Not typical of what I would wear on a normal day, but hey, who wants to be normal anyways! My goal is to incorporate a little more edge, a lot more sequins, and fresh, new colors I’ve never tried before. It is now the opportunity to try new things with fashion- and to remain completely confident doing so. Because self-confidence is the best outfit!

Where Life Begins and Love Never Ends

I have ALWAYS been close with my family. I talk with my parents more than twice a day and see them often. And Josh could say the exact same about his, which is one of the reasons why I knew he was the one for me. However, my goal for 2018 is to make EXTRA efforts at devoting my priorities towards family. To spend more time with my family and less time for myself. Whether that is watching a football game with my parents and brothers, a dinner with my in-laws, or just a night-in with Joshua and our fur-baby, Bentley, my goal is truly soak in all the moments I have with my loved ones and making them a priority. I am beyond blessed with all the love that surrounds me with both of our amazing families and our abundant group of friends and I really hope to grow a greater appreciation for that! Now, I know this seems vague, however, I just know that God is leading me in this direction, and that is where I must go! While many set resolutions for more ME, I am setting a resolution for WE.

I wish you the absolute best at achieving your resolutions this new year. I would love to hear your new goals. Accountability is key- so we gotta stick together!!
