Before JB and I found out we were expecting our first born, we knew the names we wanted for both a boy and a girl. We’ve been together for almost 10 years, so conversations of growing our family often arose- and the Name Game always accompanied that discussion. After many back and forth and changes, we knew exactly what we wanted. But we never told anyone- in order to keep that little secret to ourselves. Now that we know we will be welcoming a sweet baby boy in August, we are so excited to announce his name.
Naming your child may seem like a daunting task. Not only with the pressure of the opinions of family, friends, and random strangers, but just the fact that you’re giving a name to a human being for the rest of their life. Talk about pressure! That is why many suggest you wait until the baby is born before finalizing their name. But that is not that route we chose. We are both headstrong individuals who know what we want and stick to that. We are just so excited to share our most precious boy’s name, Maverick Dean.
Maverick Dean
Many will probably think Top Gun was our inspiration, but that is actually not the case. While Josh and I both love the movie, it just was simply a coincidence. We knew we wanted something masculine, strong, and powerful. And we felt like Maverick was just that. The name Maverick is of American origin meaning “independent, nonconformist,” which means he will fit in with his family quite well.
Dean is a family name- Josh’s grandfather’s first, his dad’s middle, and Josh’s own middle name. So it was only appropriate to have our first born son carry the tradition.
We are so excited to see how our little buddy becomes his name- to see his character and personality exemplify what is means to be a “Maverick”.
So adorable! Love the name!
