During this past spring, JB and I’s big project was finishing the back yard. He worked on the fire pit and landscaping while I focused on decorating the patio. Right outside our basement is a quaint little area where I was able to make a cozy setting for when friends and family came over or for just hanging as a family together and watching the sunset.

We bought our outdoor furniture during a sale at Target. A love seat and 2-chair combo worked best for this space, and still gives plenty of seating options. (I am also tagging very similar items above from Pottery Barn).
| Accents & Decor |
As you can see, I went with a black-and-white theme with gold accents. I love this timeless look and think it matched well with out exterior brick and stained deck. The sting lights are currently on sale for under $10 at Target and helps add even more coziness. It really looks great during the night time! And not pictured here is a round table with additional seating and a black-and-white striped umbrella above.
They key for coziness in outdoor areas is to treat them similar to indoors- draped blankets, plush pillows, lanterns, candles, and areas to sit drinks. I will bring most of these items inside since some are not weather-proof, but are easy to set up before company comes over. I am tagging all my favorite items used above.
Tips for decorating a small outdoor area:
- Outdoor Rugs– Rugs are great for creating a perimeter for an area. It helps keep the eye focused on the area and are a great way to add texture and pattern to your decor. And to help with easy maintenance, getting an outdoor rug will help keep things weatherproof.
- String Lights– Nothing like some lights strung across the ceiling to help make an area cozy and bright. It is important to create a draped-effect when doing so to keep things casual. And If you do not have a covered area- no worries! You can still run the lighting across the area using poles from one end to the other.
- Pillows and Throws- To add to the cozy vibes- having lots of pillows and throws will help keep your guests comfortable, especially on a chilly night. Plus it will make things look put together and sophisticated.
- Furniture Covers- I have been guilty of this, so learn from my mistakes. But it is so important to cover your furniture or bring it inside during bad weather and the winter. This will help keep your . As expected, I chose the most difficult color to keep clean as the base color of my furniture- WHITE. And while I love the way it looks, it is crucial to keep them clean so they remain white. And that means using covers or indoors during the off season.
Cheers!
