Here in the Bluegrass State, we celebrate the Kentucky Derby like it’s a holiday. It is the best time to get our fanciest get-up, bet on horses, and sip on lots of Grey Goose Lily’s or Woodford Reserve Mint Juleps.
Living so close to Louisville, I have been lucky enough to attend Churchill Downs often, with several visits during the Derby, Oaks, Thurby and other festivities. They are some of my favorite memories and I look forward to going every year with friends. I always use Derby to take all my fashion-risks. When you are wearing ridiculous, oversized head-garments, why not be extra with it and go all out!
I was so ecstatic to collaborate with Headcandi and House of K for some amazing Derby-inspired looks. (Thank you to Britni and Shelby for being so great!!) Britni does a fabulous job at hand-crafting fashion-forward fascinators and hats and is very well-known for doing so. She has designed headwear for fashionistas nationwide, including celebs like Luke Bryan and his wife Carolyn, so it was an absolute honor working with her for this collab! Headcandi has lots of unique hats and fascinators ready for purchase, but she is always taking custom orders, so contact Britni with Headcandi and tell her Amanda from Type A Style sent you. 😉
Over the next few day, I will be featuring several looks styled with Headcandi and accessories and dresses from House of K Boutique in New Albany, Indiana. (P.S. If you’re in the market for an evening gown, House of K is your place! They have the most gorgeous gowns for ever occasion. Plus the have an insane amount of fabulous statement jewelry and accessories, so you gotta check them out the next time you’re in Indiana. Seriously, I could have bought all her statement earrings because they were so adorable, but also so reasonably priced!)
