Growing up, I never had the desire to be a mom. My mother set such a great example of a loving, caring, selfless mom, I never felt I could live up to that standard. My personality just wasn’t motherly and I was ok with that. It wasn’t until I met Josh that I started to feel that desire and felt as if God made me to be a mom.
Now that I am a mom, I wouldn’t want it any other way. And even though it is so hard sometimes that I miss my old life, being a mom has given me a type of happiness I never knew was possible. This Valentine’s Day was our first with little man, and I was able to celebrate a new type of love- that indescribable love everyone talks about. And the older he gets, the more my love grows for Maverick and for motherhood.
Here are some of the reasons why I love about being a mom:
1 | All the Baby Snuggles
The best part of my day is laying with little man and snuggling with him on the couch. There is nothing better than the sweet smell as I kiss on his soft little head and warmth of his cuddles in my arms. Because even though your baby needs your snuggles as comfort, you actually need them more than he does.
2 | Empowerment
After having Maverick, I felt a sense of strength I didn’t have before. It was like a new me was born the same time he was. And even with all the stretch marks, extra pounds, and uncertainty of what I was doing, I felt more confident than ever. Being a mom has given me a sense of empowerment- a power to conquer the world, a confidence in myself, and true sense of happiness.
3 | Knowing You’re THEIR Person
There is nothing more heart-crippling than seeing your baby look at you and smile with such intent and trust- knowing you are there to take of them. We are so blessed to have so many people that love and care for Maverick. He is definitely spoiled! But at the end of the day, no matter how many people love on him, he knows that his mom is his safe place and that in itself is the most rewarding part of being a mom. The only world he has known up until this point is me, and no one else is as important to him than his mom and dad. That connection is indescribable.
4 | Seeing My Husband be a Father
One of my favorite parts of being a mom is watching Josh be a dad. There is nothing sexier than seeing my husband instinctually tend to Maverick and love on him with an amount of love I didn’t realize he had. Seeing him change diapers, baby talk, or even tear up when Mav smiles is the sweetest thing and it melts me every time. Having a child can sometimes cause stress in a marriage, but for us, it has only made us stronger.
5 | Seeing All of God’s Love and Mercy in One Tiny Body
There is nothing more faith building than experiencing pregnancy, birth, and the development of your child. The innocence and unending love he shows is a true testament to God’s unwavering mercy. And to think He chose me to be Maverick’s mom is even more humbling.
6 | Watching Him Grow
It is truly amazing watching how quickly he develops. He picks up on things so quickly and is a sponge for new experiences. Maverick is so alert and ready to be on the go- already ready to be big. And while it makes this mommy sad at how quickly he is growing, it is truly so amazing to watch him accomplish milestones, both big and small, and see him develop day by day.
